Cub Swanson WINS his WEC debut! Print E-mail

Cub Swanson WINS his WEC debut!

Hellhouse fighter Tommy Lee takes on KOTC veteran Cub Swanson. Tommy Lee has a 18-5 record in MMA and trains out of the Hellhouse with Clay Guida. Cub Swanson has a 9-1 record in MMA. Lee is coming off a decision victory over Norman Alexander at CFC 1: Explosion. Swanson is coming off a knockout victory over Chuck Kim at Beatdown in Bakersfield. Both fighters will be making their WEC debuts and will look to leave an impression in the WEC featherweight division.

Cub going for the legSwanson has fought at both lightweight and featherweight throughout his career, so he should be the bigger fighter of the two. He avenged his only loss earlier this year and has been recently been focusing on his striking at OC Muay Thai.

Lee comes from a wrestling background and has won the majority of his fights by decision. Lee is a tough opponent for Swanson but he should be able to get past him. Swanson is the better fighter overall and hasn’t faltered against tough competition like Lee has in the past. Lee is susceptible to submissions and that’s going to be his undoing in this fight. The official time of the stoppage came at at 3:17 of Round 1. The slight grudge match between Cub Swanson and Tommy Lee didn't last as long as many expected after Swanson locked up a slick guillotine choke midway through the opening stanza of the tussle. There was no love lost between the two featherweights and each man vowed to take out the other. As it turned out, it was Swanson's better work from inside the guard that paved the way for the tapout.

Cub getting the WIN!Lee scooped up Swanson early and tried to slam his nemesis down a la Matt Hughes, but just as he was going to drop the bomb, Swanson secured his neck, a moved that made Lee softly bring Swanson onto his back. Lee escaped the first guillotine attempt but after about a minute or so of ground work, Swanson latched up another guillotine from inside his butterfly guard. Lee had to eventually tapout, with the submission officially coming at the 3:17 of the first round.  Courtesy of Sherdog.com

Great Job Cub!
